Incredible Residential Balustrade System Installation – Illinois
When your Balustrade System order is completed you as a homeowner or a contractor want your delivery to be on time, the installation to go right, and make sure you have all the material onsite to complete the job. Well here is an example of a project that was completed by one of our clients back in 2012 where all of the above was just that. The project location is in Illinois and the homeowner is a do-it-yourselfer and ordered all of his polymer stone balustrade from our WorthingtonStone collection in the “Limestone” color for his magnificent custom home. The homeowner did the installation himself and was very pleased with the end result.
On the main deck the client used our 0210-23 baluster which, if installed correctly, gives an overall height of 36”. The spacing of each baluster is 6-3/4” O.C. which will pass the 4” ball rule as required by most building codes. Going down the stairs the client used our 0210-S (for Stair application) baluster. Each baluster is cut onsite at an angle to match the slope of the stairs. The newel posts on the main deck are 9” x 9” x 38” with the PC -1-10 Flat newel cap. At the bottom of the steps a 9” x 9” x 44” newel post was used to accommodate the railing at the slope and also allow adjustability of different rise and runs. The newel posts were placed on the bottom step which is the correct was to do installation down stairs.
On the second floor the same 0210-23 baluster was used along with four of our 9” x 9” x 38” 45° newel post which is used on the 135° angles designed on the porch. This newel post design makes the cut of the rail, and the installation, much easier as the newel post already incorporates the angle instead of having to cut the rail at the angle. This takes a lot of the guess work out and also saves time during installation. Back against the wall on the second floor the client cut a newel post in half and applied it to the wall with blocking using the pilaster installation method. To do this all you need to do is cut a newel post in half by using a chalk line, dry-fit the newel post, trace the edges and install wood blocking on the inside of the hollow newel post. Once the blocking is secured you will place the newel post back into position against the wall and secure with adhesive and screws from the side into the blocking.
