Grade Stock Wood Columns
|
Worthington offers two different types of stock wood columns
to compliment your projects. The columns are made using a
kiln-dried, finger jointed lumber. The colonial Stock Wood
offers a straight taper, while the Classical Stock Column
offers an architectural taper. The staves are assembled
using tongue and groove joints and glued with Type 1 water
resistant glue. After being turned, each shaft is completely
sanded. The overall length includes the capital, shaft, and
base/plinth. |

Notes:
-
Allowable wood
stress in compression parallel to grain is 800 PSI.
-
Allowable
loads are axial loads with no moments.
-
Load Bearing
capacity is dependent on the concentric loading of the
columns.
-
2nd story
balconies should not be attached to wood columns without
support. Contact Worthington for recommendations.
